Big Tarpon and Redfish are still biting.

Well it is the middle of the summer and big breeder Reds and massive Tarpon are on fire. Although this time of year is not typical for catching big Red fish on a consistent basis, I have found a couple schools of fish that are really active. Since the water is very hot on the flats I have been using dead bait. I have found incoming high tide to be very productive. Ultra light spinning gear has been the tackle of choice and long accurate cast are a must. Fish sizes have ranged from 29 to 37 inches and up tp 15lbs. Tarpon have also continued to been very productive. I have been using heavy spinning gear with 60lb leader tied to a 5/0 Daiichi bleeding hook. I have done good on the outgoing tides. Site casting rolling fish has been most productive, so a nice calm day makes this easy. If Tampa Bay is choppy then anchoring up tide and chumming has been the ticket.
